Qualified Plan Counseling

Jones Day’s benefits attorneys have decades of experience in, and in-depth knowledge of, the legal frameworks and business environment within which today’s complex and increasingly regulated retirement programs operate.

We help clients develop, document, operate, and maintain all forms of qualified retirement plans.  We advise clients who maintain traditional defined benefit plans, multiple employer plans, floor-offset arrangements, and cash balance and other hybrid plan designs.  We help them work through the new funding and other implications of the Pension Protection Act.

We advise clients on matters relating to 401(k) or other defined contribution plans, including safe harbor plan design issues and eligible and qualified automatic contribution arrangements.

We also have experience advising clients in audits and investigations by the IRS, the DOL, and PBGC, and preparing filings under agency voluntary correction programs.
