Jones Day's Bruce Bennett named American Lawyer "Dealmaker of the Year" for Caesars Restructuring

March 2017

Citing the successful resolution he secured in the Caesars Entertainment Operating Company's bankruptcy matter, The American Lawyer has named Jones Day's Bruce Bennett a 2017 "Dealmaker of the Year."

Mr. Bennett led a team representing the Caesars second priority noteholders and negotiated a settlement of 65.5 cents on the dollar; more than seven times the nine cents on the dollar the company initially offered. The negotiations resulted in $3 billion of additional value for the noteholders.

2017 marks the second time Mr. Bennett has been honored as a "Dealmaker of the Year." In 2015 he was named along with Jones Day partners David Heiman and Heather Lennox for their work as lead restructuring counsel for the City of Detroit during its historic $18 billion chapter 9 bankruptcy and plan of adjustment, which remains the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.

Mr. Bennett, who leads Jones Day's global Business Restructuring & Reorganization Practice, has represented debtors, creditors, and business acquirers in many of the largest corporate reorganization cases in the retail, gaming, media, telecommunications, aviation, manufacturing, real estate, insurance, energy, banking, and computer technology industries.
