Jim Gross's practice focuses primarily on briefing in complex civil litigation and appellate litigation. He has drafted briefs in many trial and appellate courts at the state and federal levels. Jim also has served as lead defense counsel in multiple cases arising under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. His experience spans across a variety of areas, including bankruptcy, commercial, constitutional, consumer, federal jurisdiction, insurance, and procurement law.

Jim maintains an active pro bono practice and has been the principal drafter of briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as federal and state appellate courts. He recently argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in a federal habeas appeal and also successfully represented a detained immigrant seeking relief from deportation under the Convention Against Torture (CAT).

While in law school, Jim won the 64th Annual Van Vleck Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, in which he successfully argued before a panel presided over by Justice Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Supreme Court.
