Bertha AliciaOrdaz-Avilés

With more than 20 years of experience, Bertha Ordaz focuses her practice on telecommunications and antitrust matters, including regulatory, licensing, and transactional work. She is well-versed in the areas of M&A, joint ventures, corporate and financial restructuring, and contracts. Her transactional and regulatory experience include industries such as satellite (featuring also satellite procurement), pay TV, wireless telephony, e-commerce, aviation, and apparel, among others.

Bertha provides legal advice on antitrust matters, involving compliance projects, as well as merger clearance procedures and investigations before the Mexican Federal Economic Competition Commission and the Federal Institute of Telecommunications.

Bertha advised RPC Group in its €650 million ($715.8 million) acquisition of GCS Group, Eutelsat Americas in its sale of Alterna'TV to CANAL+ Group (through its subsidiary, THEMA), and also provided antitrust advice to INVEX Infraestructura in the acquisition of 100 percent of the issued and outstanding capital stock of Trafigura Mexico Holding B.V. She recently advised an international leading swim wear company in an operating restructuring in Mexico.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Bertha advised Satmex in its sale to Eutelsat; Avianca in the acquisition of a Mexican cargo airline; Satmex/Eutelsat in the sale of its major subsidiary featuring satellite broadband internet services; and Telefonica, S.A. in the acquisition of Pegaso Telecomunicaciones and four cellular companies in northern Mexico.

Bertha has been a speaker in government agencies, judicial bodies, industry organizations, and universities. She is a board member of Abogadas MX and Special Olympics Mexico. She sits on the Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement Committee of the Firm and is a member of the IBA.
