Barwa Real Estate disputes construction claims involving US$2 billion project in Qatar


Jones Day represented Barwa Real Estate Company in respect of the US$2 billion Barwa City Project in Doha, Qatar, arising out of disputes involving the amended FIDIC Red Book 1987 form of Contract. Some of the issues in dispute included defects, application of the proper design codes, delay, disruption, liquidated damages, and letters of credit and bonds. The engagement also raised the important question of the application of common law principles to the Qatar Civil Code in the context of Dispute Adjudication Boards and Arbitration.
