Restraining order obtained for victim of severe abuse

Clients Client S

Jones Day represented a client who had suffered severe unreported abuse at the hands of her husband. Ultimately, our client's abuser slashed her with a knife, leaving wounds that required hours of surgery. The abuser then claimed that our client's injuries were self-inflicted, and filed for a restraining order simultaneously with our client.

Jones Day was able to gather evidence to corroborate our client's report of abuse and to contradict her abusers allegations that her wounds were self-inflicted. After trial began, the abuser agreed to submit to a restraining order, and to drop his cross request. The Court later granted our client full legal and physical custody of the couple's children, over the abuser's objections.
