Hope and assistance for clients facing eviction
Clients Pro Bono Tenants Advocacy Project
During the months of August and November 2009, associates from Jones Day Columbus volunteered to represent local residents facing private eviction. These local residents were eligible for services from The Legal Aid Society of Columbus, but Legal Aid was unable to provide representation due to an increased demand for assistance with eviction, foreclosure, and other housing issues.
The associates involved were able to obtain very positive outcomes for their clients. Several cases were dismissed entirely. Many other cases were dismissed in part in connection with a peaceful and reasonably timed move-out. In all cases, clients were given advice for communicating with their landlords, obtaining necessary repairs, and avoiding future evictions.
