Client evades eviction for pet

Jones Day client, Maria del Carmen Frayre, faced eviction from her rent-controlled apartment purportedly because she violated the rental agreement's "no pets" clause. In April, Jones Day attorneys prevailed in a one day bench trial in Los Angeles Superior Court. At the conclusion of the trial, the Court found that our client had never signed the purported rental agreement and thus entered judgment in her favor. A motion for attorneys fees is scheduled to be heard in early June 2008.
