Autistic child thrives in private placement resulting from settlement

The award-winning pro bono special education project at Jones Day's Atlanta Office successfully represented another autistic child. Atlanta Office lawyers Christine Lawson, Joe Ward, and Jordana Sternberg teamed with Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation lawyer Craig Goodmark, to obtain a 26-week private placement for a child with autism on the eve of a pre-hearing conference before the Georgia Office for Administrative Hearings. Although a confidentiality agreement currently precludes additional discussion of the settlement terms, it is a significant result legally, and for the child. After just weeks in the private program, the child is making progress that the school district had been unable to obtain even after several years of attendance.
