Anixter Center successfully negotiates new collective bargaining agreement
Clients Lester and Rosalie Anixter Center
Jones Day assisted Anixter Center in successfully negotiating a new three-year collective bargaining agreement ("CBA") with Service Employees International Union ("SEIU") Local 73. The new CBA covers a bargaining unit of approximately 140 employees in the social services (residential and day programs) and special education fields. The negotiations were complicated by Anixter Center's need for material labor concessions as part of an overall effort to return the agency to a balanced operating budget. The agreement achieved Anixter Center's strategic cost-reduction goals of reducing paid benefit time, including eliminating accrual of Alternative Time Off, reducing paid vacation, holiday, and sick leave, as well as achieving goals to improve employee attendance, better control overtime and other premium pay costs, and eliminate language and practices that resulted in administrative inefficiencies. In addition, Jones Day provided significant support including developing and revising contract proposals, responding to union information requests, and conducting legal research in support of the organization's bargaining position, all of which helped eliminate bargaining-unit costs that were impeding the organization's ability to serve individuals with disabilities throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
