Favorable settlement agreement reached helping family avoid eviction

Jim Wang and Sean D. Rigby helped their client avoid eviction and obtain a favorable settlement agreement from her landlord. Before Jones Day became involved, the client was being sued for over $1,800 in alleged nonpayment of rent and various resulting late fees. A review of the landlord’s bookkeeping found countless errors in their calculation of our client’s unpaid balance, as well as fees that were charged due to late payment by the client’s housing subsidy provider. Prior to mediation, we were able to join the subsidy provider as a third party defendant. Jones Day took the lead on settlement talks and was also able to negotiate a $75.00 payment to fully resolve our client’s liability. As a result, the client and her two young children are able to remain in their home.
