Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations wins consolidated arbitration over payment of quarterly cost of living allowance (COLA) adjustments
Clients Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC
Jones Day won an important consolidated wage agreement arbitration for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC in a case with the USW International and its Local Union affiliates at six manufacturing facilities, which are covered by three collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), each with a duration of four years. The dispute involved the proper calculation and payment of quarterly cost of living allowance (COLA) adjustments to wages in the context of COLA advances negotiated during the 2013 round of industry bargaining. By agreement of the parties, the grievances at the six facilities filed under three different CBAs were consolidated for purposes of arbitration. In total, the consolidated arbitration determined the calculation and payment of quarterly COLA wage adjustments for approximately 3,000 USW represented employees from July 2013 through July 2017. On June 30, 2015, the arbitrator issued a 48 page decision, confirming Bridgestone's method of calculating and paying COLA adjustments was correct, and denying the grievances.
