Two transmission-only subsidiaries of Xcel Energy, Inc. secure FERC approval of initial transmission formula rates

Jones Day represented Xcel Energy Transmission Development Company, LLC ("XETD") and Xcel Energy Southwest Transmission Company, LLC ("XEST") in securing Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ("FERC") approval of their initial transmission formula rate templates and protocols under Section 205 of the Federal Power Act ("FPA") prior to either company owning operational transmission facilities or having received approval to construct a transmission project. XETD and XEST are transmission-only companies formed by Xcel Energy Inc. primarily to participate in the Order No. 1000 competitive transmission solicitation processes in the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc., region and Southwest Power Pool, Inc., region, respectively. On November 26, 2014, FERC accepted XETD's and XEST's transmission formula rate template and protocols, subject to a compliance filing requirement and subject to a hearing to address a single issue related to XEST's filing.
