Jones Day leads commercial law training program in Myanmar

Clients International Senior Lawyers Project

This was a 5 day pilot introductory commercial law training program  in Yangon, Myanmar. The workshop was aimed at providing fundamentals in commercial law for the developing legal practitioner. ISLP implemented the program in partnership with Myanmar Legal Aid Network (MLAW).  The aim of the program was to enhance young lawyers' practical, real-world skills in commercial and business law and contribute to Myanmar's equitable economic development by expanding the opportunities for lawyers and their client-entrepreneurs to participate more fully in their country's commercial and civic life.

The program was limited to 25-30 participants and included presentations, workshops, lectures and interactive exercises on the following topics: 
• Commercial Law and its Importance
• Forming and Managing a Commercial Law Practice
• Role of the Commercial Lawyer
• Forming and Governing a Commercial Enterprise
• Funding the Commercial Enterprise
• Commercial Contracts
• Types of Commercial Contracts
• Negotiation Skills and Techniques
