Jones Day aids domestic violence victim in applying for and receiving lawful status

Clients Client B

Laird Nelson and Emily Kuznick assisted client J.B. in adjusting her status to lawful permanent resident status.

Ms. B was referred to us by Her Justice.  Ms. B is a foreign citizen who came to Jones Day after suffering severe physical abuse at the hands of her husband, an American citizen.  Over the course of several months the team met with Ms. B and helped her to draft and file an I-360 Battered Spouse Self-Petition under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), an I-485 Adjustment of Status Application, and an I-765 Employment Authorization Application in December 2012.

Notice that the VAWA application was successful arrived in September 2013.  Laird Nelson and Emily Kuznick accompanied the client to immigration court in February 2014, where Ms. B was successful in answering the immigration service officer’s questions and obtaining lawful permanent residence status.
