Jones Day successfully defended the Town Council of the Town of Hempstead, New York, and the Town of Hempstead, New York, in a preliminary injunction action seeking a court imposed redistricting plan. In this case, the plaintiffs claimed that the enacted redistricting plan for the Town Council violated the Voting Rights Act and the U.S. Constitution. Jones Day briefed these issues on an expedited basis and defended the plan during an all-day hearing held on May 14, 2013. At the conclusion of the hearing, the court denied the plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction.
