Sugar Transport successfully challenges jury verdict

The California Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision reversing a $22.5 million jury award against Sugar Transport of the Northwest, LLC that had been affirmed by the intermediate appellate court prior to Jones Day's involvement. The Court held that if an employer admits respondeat superior liability for an employee's conduct, the plaintiff may not pursue alternate direct theories of liability against the employer such as negligent hiring or negligent entrustment.
