After having succeeded in recovering more than $5.8 million in coverage for Homestake Mining Company in connection with environmental claims, Jones Day successfully defended Homestake against indemnity claims brought by several of its general liability insurers seeking to force Homestake to indemnify them against a $5 million equitable contribution claim. Following a trial in the Alameda County Superior Court Complex Litigation Department, the court ruled that Homestake owed no duty to indemnify any of its insurers for the $5 million contribution claim.
