Jones Day assists disabled veteran with court freeze on bank account

Through Jones Day's pro bono partnership with Pittsburgh's Veterans Leadership Program, attorney Jeff DeVore represented a 100% disabled veteran whose bank account had been frozen by the court for non-payment of child support. The veteran had stopped making payments when he fell behind in his bills, and the court placed a freeze on his bank account, effectively seizing all of his funds.
While a veteran's disability payment may be used to determine child support payments, federal law prohibits garnishment of these funds under most circumstances. Jones Day successfully negotiated a favorable settlement for the missed payments and the freeze was lifted from the account.
