Judgment for elder financial abuse victim is obtained

Clients Client PS

Jones Day's attorneys obtained a $101,247 judgment on behalf of pro bono client PS in an elder financial abuse case alleging a caretaker for the client's deceased husband defrauded the client's family of $75,000. After about a year of litigation in the San Mateo Superior Court, the Court granted Plaintiff's Motion for Terminating Sanction against the main defendant in the case for his failure to comply with the Court's order to compel answer. The Court held that the defendant is liable for money owed and the interest accrued. The team had previously obtained a default judgment against the now defunct corporation that the defendant had formed with the ill-gotten funds. Client PS was represented by Jones Day's Silicon Valley attorneys Behrooz Shariati, Alan Massengale, and Kwan Chan. Other Silicon Valley attorneys who have worked on the case include Deborah Hedley and Valerie McConnell.
