City of Hope resolves action seeking to prevent formation of nonprofit medical foundation in California

Clients City of Hope National Medical Center

Jones Day represented City of Hope National Medical Center in an action by a medical group ("CCSMG") seeking to prevent client from forming a nonprofit medical foundation in California, from contracting with a competing medical group (Oncology Specialists of COH, P.C. ("OSCOH")), and from recruiting CCSMG's physicians. Plaintiffs claimed that client and OSCOH were engaged in the corporate practice of medicine in violation of California law, and tortiously interfered with CCSMG's employment contracts with its physicians. On October 22, 2010, the Firm obtained a denial of plaintiffs' motion for a preliminary injunction.
