Merial prevails in contempt proceeding against Cipla
Clients Merial Limited
Jones Day successfully represented plaintiff Merial Limited against generic pharmaceutical manufacturer Cipla Limited and others in a proceeding for contempt of an injunction order prohibiting infringement of Merial's patent covering the chemical composition of its flagship FRONTLINE® Plus flea and tick products. Merial's FRONTLINE® Plus products are among the world's most successful animal health products, accounting for over $1 billion in annual sales. In conjunction with the contempt finding, the Court permanently enjoined Cipla and others from selling the infringing products, ordered the seizure of any existing inventory in the United States, and ordered a hearing to determine an award to Merial for damages as well as monetary sanctions.
