International bank defends claims of wrongful freezing of accounts

Clients Bank van de Nederlandse Antilles and First Curacao

Jones Day represented Bank van de Nederlandse Antilles (the central bank of the Netherlands Antilles) and First Curacao International Bank ("FCIB"), a regulated bank against claims of fraud and breach of contract arising from the central bank's imposition of withdrawal restrictions on accounts at FCIB. After Jones Day filed its motion to dismiss demonstrating, among other things, that the claims were barred by the doctrine of international sovereign immunity because they concerned the central bank's regulatory powers, plaintiff withdrew the action.
