Asylum granted for Eritrean citizen

Clients ATT

On October 14, 2010, the Jones Day Dallas team of Lindsey Bartula, Julie Kaplan, and Kathleen McLaurin attended an individual asylum hearing for our client, an Eritrean citizen, who was persecuted by the Eritrean government for expressing his political opinions. He was imprisoned and tortured for over 2 years before he escaped the country. We obtained the defensive asylum case from the Human Rights Initiative in January of 2010 and filed the brief and supporting materials in June. At the individual hearing, the Immigration Judge ruled from the bench before closing arguments were given, granting asylum to our client.
