Chevron settles federal False Claims Act litigation alleging underpayment of federal and Indian gas and natural gas liquids royalties

Jones Day represented Chevron Corporation, Texaco Inc. and Unocal Corporation in an action brought by Relator Wright, suing on behalf of the United States government pursuant to the qui tam provisions of the Federal False Claims Act. The suit alleged that the producers of gas from all federal and Indian lands (including offshore Gulf of Mexico) had knowingly underpaid government royalties on gas, natural gas liquids and condensate since 1986, pursuant to a variety of schemes.
