Bombardier Transportation successfully defends against royalty claims arising out of license of monorail technology

Jones Day represented Bombardier Inc. ("Bombardier") in an arbitration initiated by Disney Enterprises ("Disney") before the American Arbitration Association in Los Angeles. Disney sought royalties on hundreds of millions of dollars of Bombardier monorail and airport peoplemover sales allegedly due under a 1984 technology license. In February 2008, after a full evidentiary hearing, the panel rejected Disney's expansive royalty theories.
