Abbott defends against claims that its formula product caused premature infant's infection
Clients Abbott Laboratories
Jones Day represented Abbott Laboratories in a case brought by the parents of Ashleigh Marie Hill, alleging that their premature daughter's infection resulted from an Abbott infant formula product after the baby had gone home from the hospital approximately nine weeks after her birth. Plaintiffs contended that the product contained certain bacteria that resulted in meningitis and caused extensive and permanent brain injury. Plaintiffs, however, failed to preserve any of the product that allegedly caused the injury. The case settled on mutually agreeable terms.
