Prisoner represented on ineffective assistance of counsel claim in Sixth Circuit
Clients Valencia, Tobias
Jones Day represented Tobias Valencia, who was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and sentenced to 16 years in prison. Mr. Valencia petitioned for relief pro se in the district court under 21 U.S.C. § 2255 and was denied relief. The Firm then represented him on appeal to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, raising arguments of ineffective assistance of counsel. Melissa Nandi (who recently left the firm) wrote his appellate briefs. David E. Mills then assumed lead representation, with Lindsay Jenkins as co-counsel. Mills argued Mr. Valencia's case at the Sixth Circuit on June 1, 2006. A decision is pending.
