The United States chapter comprehensively covers the rules of trademark registration practice and procedure at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), providing domestic and foreign brand owners and trademark practitioners with the information necessary to register and protect trademarks in the United States. The United States chapter includes recent developments in United States trademark law and at the USPTO, and covers more than 30 topics of interest, including what is and is not registrable under U.S. trademark law, the ins and outs of prosecuting trademark applications, the effect of registration and how to maintain registered trademark rights, the process and procedure for assigning ownership of trademarks and recording the same, and mechanisms for enforcement of trademark rights in the USPTO.
Ms. Tannen focuses her practice on trademark and copyright law and is a member of the Firm's global Trademarks, Unfair Competition & Copyrights team. She is also a former member of the Trademark Public Advisory Committee (TPAC) of the USPTO. She manages global trademark portfolios for domestic and multinational companies, advising on worldwide clearance, brand development and use, registration strategies, and enforcement, in such industries as pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, apparel, sports, food and beverages, and financial services. Ms. Tannen also counsels companies regarding the use of their intellectual property in online content and social media and advises clients regarding copyright protection and use. She is a frequent speaker at professional and client conferences on such topics as domestic and foreign trademark practice, adoption of pharmaceutical trademarks, and corporate rebranding.
