Dickson Chin among New York Law Journal's Innovation Award winners

Jones Day partner Dickson Chin was among the lawyers and legal professionals to receive a 2021 Innovation Award from the New York Law Journal. The awards recognize "creative and inspiring approaches and forward-thinking firms and Individuals."

Mr. Chin recently led the Jones Day team that advised the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) in the development and publication of the U.S. Renewable Energy Certificate Annex (REC Annex), which allows companies to buy and sell renewable energy certificates (RECs) based on standardized product definitions and terms, enabling more efficient trading of these instruments. The REC Annex is pioneering in the way it consolidates existing market standards and enables flexibility to reflect future developments.

Beginning with his first transactions involving RECs and carbon offsets in the mid-2000s, Mr. Chin has accumulated an extensive record of contributing to market standards for ESG transactions, and his commitment to innovation also encompasses technology. He is involved with representing clients on blockchain and other distributed ledger technology and smart contracts, previously authored a chapter on smart contracts for an American Bar Association book on blockchain, contributed to the ISDA Legal Guidelines for Smart Derivatives Contracts, and spoke at the Congressional Blockchain Caucus.

Winners of the 2021 Innovation Awards were recognized in the New York Law Journal's Professional Excellence magazine and honored at the New York Legal Awards in October.
