Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center honors Scott Swanson during its 2021 Humanitarian Awards
Jones Day congratulates Scott Swanson, President, PNC Bank, Illinois, who was honored with the 2021 Humanitarian Award by the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center on Wednesday, March 10, recognizing his commitment to community and philanthropy.
The Humanitarian Awards dinner is the museum's signature annual event honoring community leaders and Holocaust survivors, and is the City of Chicago's largest annual fundraiser. During this year’s event, NBA star and activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the keynote speaker. The Exelon Corporation was also recognized for its humanitarian efforts, as were Zev and Shifra Karkomi, who were posthumously given the Survivor Legacy Award for their support of the museum.
"On behalf of Jones Day, I congratulate Scott on this much-deserved award for his ongoing commitment to combatting hatred and prejudice in our community and beyond," said Michael Gray, the Firm’s global Co-Client Affairs Partner, who sits on the museum board.
"As this honor recognizes, Scott is a true humanitarian and human rights activist who leads by example, taking a stand against prejudice and indifference, and for human rights, on a daily basis," said Michael Conway, a partner in the Chicago Office.
Jones Day is a longtime supporter of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. In addition to sponsoring the Humanitarian Awards dinner for the sixth consecutive year, the Firm has also provided pro bono counsel to the museum, and the Jones Day Foundation contributed to the museum’s Take A Stand Center, which opened in 2017.
Most recently, the Firm sponsored the virtual seminar "Sisters in Law: How Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg Went to the Supreme Court and Changed the World” in October, which was moderated by Mr. Gray and featured Judge Ann Claire Williams (Ret.), who leads Jones Day's efforts in advancing the rule of law in Africa.
