The global law firm Jones Day has been ranked among the "Fearsome Foursome" – the law firms that clients would least like to see as opposing counsel – according to the BTI Litigation Outlook 2021: The Pandemic-Led Market report, published this month by the BTI Consulting Group, Inc. The report is based solely on in-depth interviews with leading legal decision makers at Fortune 1000 companies.
The report also ranked Jones Day in the following seven categories:
- IP Litigation
- Class Actions Litigation
- Securities and Finance Litigation
- Complex Employment Litigation
- Product Liability Litigation
- Complex Commercial Litigation
- Commercial Litigation
To identify the 2021 "Fearsome Foursome," BTI conducted interviews between February and August 2020, asking 240 general counsel and in-house litigation heads which law firms they would least like to see on the other side of the table. The majority, unaided, named Jones Day and the other three firms on the list.
"We are gratified that clients recognize our depth and breadth, and how we work together to address the high-stakes risks they face across disciplines and jurisdictions," said Stephanie Parker, co-leader of Jones Day's Business & Tort Litigation Practice.
"Our ability to deliver outstanding results is made possible by the collective energy of our cohesive partnership that collaborates seamlessly throughout our litigation practices," added David Kiernan, who serves as Co-Client Affairs Partner for the Firm.
BTI bases the analysis of current and future trends in litigation provided in the 2021 Litigation Outlook report on more than 9,000 interviews with corporate counsel and other legal decision makers in the span of 20 years.
"Jones Day is one of the firms clients say are being aggressive in tackling the new issues head-on," says Michael B. Rynowecer, President of The BTI Consulting Group. "Among the seven litigation areas in which the firm is ranked, top legal decision-makers report the firm improved to top-ranking position in five of them. It is rare to see such improvement in a market where clients are raising their expectations to new heights."
In the most recent edition of its BTI Client Service A-Team report ranking client service performance, Jones Day ranked #1 for the fourth consecutive time.
