Jones Day Financial Markets Practice Leader Jayant Tambe received a 2020 Distinguished Leader Award from the New York Law Journal (NYLJ). The Distinguished Leader Award recognizes "attorneys in leadership roles who achieved impressive results in the past year." NYLJ announced the awards on June 30, will feature the recipients in its upcoming Professional Excellence Magazine, and will honor them at the New York Legal Awards on October 27. The NYLJ also recognized Jones Day Business Restructuring & Reorganization partner Corinne Ball with a 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award.
In his 25 years at Jones Day, Mr. Tambe has been a key contributor in expanding the Firm's financial services client base and in representing financial institutions in complex financial products litigations. He led scores of engagements on multibillion-dollar liabilities for leading financial institutions, including the representation of Lehman Brothers as special derivatives counsel in many complex derivatives litigations and multiple global banks on the full range of structured financial products litigation. He also led a team of lawyers on litigations for Wells Fargo concerning more than 280 separate RMBS trusts—litigation stemming from the 2008 financial crisis. In addition, he has led antitrust and other litigations involving municipal bonds, interest rate indices, and investment products for other global financial institutions.
In late 2019, the Firm appointed Mr. Tambe to lead its new Financial Markets Practice, an innovative, global, 300+ lawyer practice that brings transactional, regulatory, and litigation lawyers under one umbrella. Mr. Tambe immediately focused these multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional lawyers into groups that could provide coordinated solutions for clients. With the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic, the Firm's lawyers are providing advice to address unprecedented economic and social disruptions affecting clients in every industry segment. Mr. Tambe led the Financial Markets Practice in quickly responding to client needs across the globe with strategic guidance ranging from urgent transactional advice, to navigating local, national, and global regulatory initiatives, to responding to the first stages of what is expected to be a flood of contentious litigation.
Mr. Tambe is also a member of the Firm's Advisory Committee, which advises the Managing Partner on issues of strategic importance to the governance and growth of the Firm. Additionally, Mr. Tambe has a tireless commitment to diversity, prioritizing the engagement of diverse lawyers and providing opportunities to raise their profiles throughout the legal community.
