Jones Day advised ENGIE-led consortium on IFLR Americas Awards 2020 M&A Deal of the Year

The $8.6 billion acquisition and related financing of 90% of Transportadora Associada de Gás SA (TAG), on which Jones Day provided advice to the Engie-led consortium bid winner, was named M&A Deal of the Year by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) at the IFLR Americas Awards.

As noted by IFLR on its awards announcement, Engie's acquisition was "an extraordinary transaction on many levels that culminated in the Engie-led consortium acquiring equity ownership of and establishing an industrial partnership with TAG." The acquisition is also the largest cash acquisition and privatization in Brazil.

IFLR's Americas Awards recognize legal innovation in cross-border transactions. To be considered, all deals must have closed in 2019 and must meet specific criteria to be categorized as cross-border and as from the Americas. A full description of the awards is available at the IFLR website.

The transaction has to date received the LatinFinance Cross-Border M&A Deal of the Year award, the LatinFinance Oil and Gas Financing Deal of the Year award, the PFI Deal of the Year-Americas award, the Infrastructure Investor Global Deal of the Year award, the IJ Global M&A Deal of the Year – Americas award, and the Proximo Oil and Gas Acquisition Deal of the Year award.

Marcello Hallake and S. Wade Angus led the Jones Day team, which included Robert da Silva Ashley and I. Lewis H. Grimm.
