Jones Day partner Randy Kay named to Daily Journal’s inaugural 2019 list of Top Trade Secrets Lawyers

Randy Kay, a partner in Jones Day's Intellectual Property Practice, has been named to the Daily Journal's inaugural list of "Top Trade Secrets Lawyers" for his work handling significant trade secrets disputes for technology clients in the center of U.S.-China relations. He advises companies on protection of trade secret assets and handles trade secret misappropriation disputes of all types. He has served as an expert witness on trade secret litigation in a jury trial and is a co-editor and co-author of the treatise Trade Secret Litigation and Protection in California, published by the State Bar of California.

Mr. Kay represents Micron Technology, Inc., in its cross-border litigation against United Microelectronics Corp. of Taiwan and Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co., Ltd., of China. Mr. Kay leads the Jones Day team tackling issues of first impression regarding the Defend Trade Secrets Act of 2016, RICO allegations, and California's Uniform Trade Secrets Act. Additionally, Mr. Kay and a team of Jones Day lawyers represented Qualcomm Incorporated in its trade secret and contract lawsuit against Apple Inc. Mr. Kay led the team that won a string of discovery battles in the trial court and numerous appellate writ proceedings before the lawsuit settled in April 2019 as part of a global settlement.
