Jones Day names region, office leaders in Texas

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Business & Tort Litigation partner Matt Kairis will become Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s Texas Region and M&A partner Stephen Olson will become the Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day’s Houston Office. Both appointments were effective January 1, 2019.

A litigator with nearly 30 years' experience, Mr. Kairis has won significant verdicts in mass tort, financial regulation, and consumer fraud matters. His notable current representations include serving as lead counsel for all collegiate institutions in the NCAA football concussion litigation, a consolidation of more than 100 putative class actions. Mr. Kairis routinely handles high-profile matters, such as defending nationwide attacks on the security of electronic voting systems for the industry's leading manufacturer, and leading litigation efforts in the wake of the multibillion-dollar collapse of a national receivables-financing company. Mr. Kairis will be based in Jones Day’s Dallas Office. He was previously head of litigation for Jones Day's Columbus Office.

"This is a great time to be in Texas, a state with growing economy and dynamic legal environment," said Mr. Kairis. "I look forward to working with our Jones Day lawyers and our clients as they pursue opportunities and address their legal matters in the region."

Mr. Olson counsels clients in connection with public and private acquisition and divestiture transactions, complex joint ventures, registered offerings, and private placements of debt and equity securities. He has worked with clients across a number of industries, including energy upstream, chemicals, industrial manufacturing, oil field services, finance, media, health care, telecommunications, and technology. His clients include private equity firms, private and mature public companies, and investment banking firms.

Hilda Galvan will remain the Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s Dallas Office. A nationally recognized trial lawyer who focuses on complex intellectual property litigation, Ms. Galvan has represented plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts across the country. In 2016, she was named a global IP leader by World IP Review. Ms. Galvan is immediate past chair of the board of the Dallas Regional Chamber, serves on the board of trustees of the University of Texas School of Law, and on the boards of Parkland Hospital Foundation, Texas Women's Foundation, and the Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation.

In addition to the appointments of Messrs. Kairis and Olson, Brian Jorgensen and Laurens Wilkes will become the Administrative Partners in Dallas and Houston respectively.
