Kornel Olsthoorn has experience assisting clients in trade defense investigations, customs matters, as well as commercial and corporate disputes. He advises on EU trade, World Trade Organization (WTO) law, export controls, customs law, and Dutch and EU competition law.
Kornel's recent engagements include the representation of a group of expropriated bondholders in connection with the nationalization of SNS Reaal and SNS Bank.
Kornel has assisted clients with EU trade defense investigations concerning antidumping, subsidies, and anticircumvention. He has advised clients in a wide variety of other trade matters such as trade negotiations and WTO dispute settlements. Kornel has assessed compliance of clients' trading practices with EU export controls and sanctions and has assisted clients with pre- and post-investment regulatory scrutiny of cross-border transactions. He also has advised clients on EU customs matters, in particular on tariff classification and customs valuation issues, and has handled customs-related criminal enforcement investigations by national authorities. In addition, Kornel works on regulatory matters and Dutch and EU competition cases.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2017, Kornel worked at a leading international trade and EU competition law firm in Brussels and as an intern in the chambers of Marc van der Woude, president of the EU General Court.
