Dhanraj Misra has successfully acted as a global litigation strategist for United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Indian entities. He has worked in Dubai and Delhi, acting for Indian and UAE-based companies in cross-border, multijurisdictional financial disputes involving insolvency and bankruptcy, fraud, asset recovery and investigations, and money laundering and corruption.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2020, Dhanraj defended large euro claims brought by a western European state's special liquidators in international insolvency and bankruptcy, conspiracy, and recovery proceedings in Ireland, India, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia, Hong Kong, and Belize. He worked closely with Jones Day London as an external counsel on these disputes in executing global settlement agreements.
Dhanraj's other prior experience includes acting for UAE entities in international investigations brought under a southern European state's extraordinary administration law, where global debt claims against an insolvent corporate group (a major agribusiness conglomerate) exceeded EUR 7bn, and representing an Afghan-Azerbaijani joint venture in US$150 million claims made against the Republic of Afghanistan in a dispute involving the termination of a World Bank-funded engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for a major Afghan irrigation and hydropower dam project.
Dhanraj has also advised on various Indian law disputes, including proceedings under the Indian Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC).
