María Martínez de Aguirre advises national and international clients on antitrust and competition law matters in Spain and at the European level. Her experience includes cartel investigations, merger control, State aid, abuse of dominant position, distribution arrangements, and licensing and covers a broad range of industries such as energy, transportation, technology, and health care. María also has experience advising clients in antitrust compliance and has participated in offering tailored-made antitrust training programs to clients. In addition, María has experience responding to dawn raids.

Prior to joining Jones Day, María worked in the Amsterdam office of an international law firm, where she gained extensive experience in cartel investigations and was involved in a major cartel investigation in the industrial batteries sector. She also has advised companies on State aid and on the compliance of their distribution systems and pricing policies with competition law.

At the start of her career, María worked at the European Commission, Directorate-General Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), where she advised on EU law matters.

María regularly lectures on competition law at the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía, a legal training center affiliated with the Complutense University of Madrid, and at the University Carlos III of Madrid.
