For more than 15 years, Louis Mercedes has advised clients in the area of corporate law, concentrating on private equity, M&A, recapitalizations, and other complex business transactions in the United States and abroad. He has experience across various industries, including financial services, health care, technology, communications, and media.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2014, Louis represented the lead private equity investors in a joint venture with Warner Bros. totaling $600 million (the transaction was awarded "Media Industry Deal of Year" by Investment Dealers' Digest). He also represented private equity funds or investors in: making a controlling investment in a Brazilian fiber company; the acquisition of a money transfer business with operations in the United States, Guatemala, Mexico, and Spain; the acquisition of wireless PCS assets divested from Cingular Wireless; the negotiation of controlling investments in a Puerto Rican cable TV operator; and the successful $160 million acquisition of a Puerto Rican wireless company pursuant to a Section 363 bankruptcy auction.
Louis is a member of the Boston, Massachusetts, and American Bar Associations as well as the Massachusetts Association of Hispanic Attorneys. He is a board member of United South End Settlements, an organization devoted to improving the lives of low-income individuals.

Represented CoreLab Partners, a medical imaging and cardiac safety solutions company based in Princeton, New Jersey, in its sale structured as a strategic cash-out merger to BioClinica.
Represented ABRY Partners and RCN in the dividend recapitalization from SunTrust Bank. ABRY Partners, a media-focused private equity firm headquartered in Boston, acquired RCN in 2010.
Represented American Tower Corporation, a leading owner and operator of wireless and broadcast communications sites in North America, headquartered in Boston, in the acquisition of subsidiaries of Unison Holdings, holding a portfolio of approximately 1,800 communications sites. Under the terms of agreement, the purchase price included $312 million in cash and the assumption of $196 million of existing indebtedness, a transaction totaling approximately $500 million.
Represented American Tower Corporation in the October 2011 acquisition of wireless communications sites from Global Tower Partners.
Represented lead investors in the acquisition of a money transfer business with operations in the United States and the Dominican Republic.
Represented ABRY in the acquisition of RCN Corporation.
Represented founders in connection with the negotiation of a sale of a Honduran cable TV operator.
Served as fund formation counsel for a $550 million fund and for a $1.1 billion fund.
Represented venture capital funds in connection with their equity investments in a cable television sports programming channel.
Represented lead private equity investor in connection with a $60 million equity investment in a newly launched Latino-themed digital cable network.
Represented lead private equity investors in the acquisition and financing of a company in the life settlements industry.
Represented lenders in a senior financing of a radio broadcast company and of a U.S. magazine publisher.
Part of the team engaged by a lead investor to oversee its equity and debt financing of a radio and television broadcast company.
