John Magruder advises clients on antitrust issues associated with mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, including counseling on premerger notification, gun jumping, interlocking directorates, and trade association conduct. John's practice focuses on premerger notification compliance and counseling under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act, having assisted clients navigate the process in hundreds of transactions.
John's experience comprises a number cross-border transactions and spans a wide variety of industries, including software, electronics, health care, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, financial services, and defense.
John is a member of the American Bar Association's Section of Antitrust Law, contributing to a number of the Section's publications, including Antitrust Law Developments (Eighth), Premerger Coordination (Second), and the Health Care Mergers and Acquisitions Handbook. He has also written extensively about the HSR Act, providing up-to-date guidance reflecting the most recent changes and commenting on the impact of HSR-related enforcement actions and significant regulatory developments.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2015, John was an antitrust attorney with the DC Attorney General's Office, where he investigated and litigated antitrust, false claims, and fraud cases.
