Dr. Alex Li advises clients around the world on a wide range of matters that involve complex scientific and technical issues. His practice includes both emerging companies and multinational corporations in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, semiconductor, and software sectors.

Alex's experience includes patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, software licensing, IP due diligence, IP agreements, cross-border IP transactions, and Hatch-Waxman litigations.

In assisting clients, Alex draws on his significant technical knowledge and research experience from his graduate studies in chemistry. He has authored a number of peer-reviewed scientific publications on subjects such as asymmetric catalysis, computational molecular modeling, and quantum dots. Prior to joining Jones Day as an associate, Alex worked as a scientific advisor and as a patent agent for three years in the Washington, D.C. area.

  • SK Innovation defeats request to exclude lithium-ion battery technology in ITC dispute with LG ChemJones Day clients SK Innovation Co., Ltd. and SK Battery America, Inc., following an evidentiary hearing in December 2020, prevailed against LG Chem et al. in a patent infringement dispute before the International Trade Commission (ITC) involving lithium-ion battery technology used in electric vehicles.

  • Zeavion Holding Pte. Ltd. contract assumed in Gymboree bankruptcyJones Day successfully represented Zeavion Holding Pte. Ltd., a significant trademark license holder, in connection with, among other things, the assumption and assignment of a significant trademark license and ancillary agreement from Gymboree to The Children's Place in connection with Gymboree's section 363 sale of substantially all of certain Gymboree assets to The Children's Place.
