Michael Lishman is an experienced Australian corporate lawyer and has acted on many large M&A transactions, including in the oil and gas, mining, financial services, and transport sectors.
Michael's experience includes public company takeovers and schemes, private M&A, and complex restructurings. Prior to joining Jones Day in 2018, Michael was an investment banker with Gresham Partners and before that a senior partner with a Magic Circle law firm, his own law firm, and a leading Australian law firm in Perth and in Melbourne. Examples of deals Michael has worked on as legal advisor include: the sale of Australian Railroad Group by Wesfarmers and Genesee & Wyoming; the sale of Jubilee Mines to Xstrata; HBOS Australia's sale of BankWest to Commonwealth Bank; the sale of Coogee Resources to PTTEP; the acquisition of 49% of Talison Lithium by Rockwood Holdings; and Apache's sale of liquefied natural gas (LNG) interests to Woodside.
Michael is a member of the advisory board of Curtin University Law School and was a member of the Council of Curtin University from 2010 to 2019.
Michael is a member of Australia's Takeovers Panel.
