Juan Huertas' practice focuses on cross-border finance, M&A, joint venture, and private equity transactions. He has represented Latin American, North American, and European clients in many industry sectors, including financial services, infrastructure, and natural resources.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2017, Juan was an M&A associate at two leading Colombian firms, where he participated in transactions such as Grupo Sura's acquisition of Royal & Sunalliance's insurance operations in Latin America, Banco Corpbanca's acquisition of Helm Bank in Colombia and Panama, the merger of two leading broker dealers (Ultrabursatiles and Serfinco), the reorganization of Grupo Corpbanca's capital markets area, Strabag AG's bidding into toll road auctions and subsequent project financing, and Holcim's sale of nonproductive mining assets. He also handled general corporate matters for diverse multinational clients, as well as commercial and regulatory issues for several banks, broker dealers, private equity, and real estate funds, including Bancolombia and Grupo Davivienda.
Juan has lectured on Colombian securities regulation at the Universidad Javeriana School of Law and has been an active member of the board of trustees of a Colombian nonprofit dedicated to providing elementary, middle, and high school education in underserved areas.
