Dr. Mitsi Blount focuses her practice on assisting clients with procuring and protecting their intellectual property in the life science, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical fields. Mitsi's practice involves patent preparation and patent prosecution in addition to conducting patent landscape analyses and due diligence evaluations to assess freedom-to-operate, patentability, and invalidity issues for clients. Her experience also includes Hatch-Waxman litigations and other therapeutic-related litigation matters. Mitsi has a wide range of technical experience, including CAR-T cell therapies, therapeutic antibodies, small molecule drugs and biologics, immunotherapies, stem cell therapies, and nanomaterials for drug delivery systems.

Prior to joining Jones Day in 2022, Mitsi was an assistant professor of medicine at Emory University where she was awarded multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health and other foundations to support her research of kidney physiology and disease. During her academic career, Mitsi served on multiple editorial boards, grant review committees, and was a speaker at national and international scientific meetings. Prior to her appointment at Emory, Mitsi earned her Ph.D. in molecular physiology and biophysics from Vanderbilt University. Her work in in vitro, cell, and animal model systems over her 16-year long career in academia employed a wide range of modern molecular and cell biology techniques. Mitsi has authored and coauthored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, which highlight her experience in phosphodiesterase inhibition, cell signaling, and renal function.
