Maria Abadia's practice focuses on domestic and cross-border corporate finance and project finance transactions in the United States and in Latin America. She also represents domestic and international clients in debt capital market and M&A transactions. In addition, she has experience in corporate tax matters as they relate to M&A transactions.
Maria's recent experience includes representing Otras Producciones de Energía Photovoltaica, S.L. (OPDE), a member of the OPDE Group, in connection with the sale of 80% of its equity interests in two photovoltaic power plants and associated electrical substations and interconnection lines, located in the Mexican states of Aguascalientes (34.2 MW) and Coahuila (82.5 MW) to an affiliate of Riverstone Holdings, an energy and power-focused private investment firm.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2019, Maria was an associate at a leading international law firm in New York, where she represented clients on financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, divestitures, and joint ventures for infrastructure assets in the United States and in Latin America.
Maria is active in the Firm's Laredo Project, advocating for asylum seekers fleeing violence in their home country.
Maria is a member of the New York State Bar Association. She was born in Cali, Colombia and is a native Spanish speaker.
