September 28-30, 2021

Jones Day partners Greg Castanias, Randy Kay, and Carl Kukkonen will speak at the upcoming IPO Annual Meeting.

On September 20 (live) and 28 (virtual), Mr. Castanias will present during the session titled "Patent and Trademark Case Law Update and Noteworthy Trends in IP Law." He will speak about how the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and district courts have authored a number of opinions re-shaping and, in some cases, clarifying patent and trademark law.

Mr. Kay will present virtually on September 29 during a session titled "Where to Sue When Your Trade Secret Is Misappropriated Outside the U.S." He will discuss how and where U.S. companies victim to misappropriation of their trade secrets via conduct outside the U.S. can pursue legal actions. He will address the Defend Trade Secrets Act and its provision for extraterritorial jurisdiction over foreign actors based on "acts in furtherance" of misappropriation in the United States.

Mr. Kukkonen will present on September 21 (live) and 29 (virtual) during the session titled "Data Issues and Best Practices Related to Artificial Intelligence Agreements." He will moderate a panel of in-house experts discussing how the digital transformation requires companies to undertake careful considerations when entering into partnering agreements, particularly with respect to ownership of training data, validation data, and model improvements.
