Fight Against Hate: One Family’s Journey Toward Hope and Change

On May 20, 2017, U.S. Army Lieutenant Richard W. Collins III was tragically murdered in a racially motivated attack a few days before he was to graduate from Bowie State University, and just after he was commissioned into the Army. On May 20, 2021, the fourth anniversary of Lt. Collins' death, the Firm hosted a conversation with his parents, Dawn and Richard Collins.

Partners Shirlethia Franklin and Andy Luger moderated the discussion, in which the Collins family described their journey to advocate for change in the prosecution of hate crimes and their efforts to make a lasting impact on their son's legacy.
