Racing Victoria analyzes proposed merger between Tabcorp and Tatts Group

Jones Day assisted Racing Victoria Limited ("Racing Victoria") in relation to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ("ACCC") investigation of a proposed merger between Tabcorp Holdings Limited and Tatts Group.

Racing Victoria funds and organizes horse races in Australia. Part of the company’s funding is derived from betting on the races and from the sale of TV broadcast rights. Tabcorp and Tatts are the only two traditional betting services companies in the market. Tabcorp also owns three and a half of the four TV stations focused on horse and greyhound racing. Racing Victoria opposed the proposed merger.

Tabcorp and Tatts’ initially applied to the ACCC for informal merger clearance, but later withdrew that application.
