South Carolina state legislative redistricting plan survives voters' claims of Equal Protection Clause and Voting Rights Act violations

Client(s) Glenn F. McConnell, President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina Senate

Jones Day represented Glenn F. McConnell, the President Pro Tempore of the South Carolina State Senate, in a three-judge federal district court case challenging the Senate districts under the Equal Protection Clause and Voting Rights Act. Jones Day successfully moved to recuse the lead judge based on his role as an attorney in a similar case 10 years ago. Then, shortly after Michael Carvin deposed the plaintiffs' expert, the plaintiffs dropped their claims against the Senate plan.
